When analyzing Blavatsky's "Esoteric Chronology," reactions are often of fascination or skepticism, whether due to the nature of its contents (races, etc.) or its invariably staggering numbers. Few people know how much abstraction there may be behind these exotic formulas. Here, however, we will begin to remove this knowledge from abstract planes, to work on its objective application in the material and spiritual evolution of humanity itself.
Blavatsky's cosmology was constructed based on the Hindu Philosophies of Time, especially the Manvantara used in Indian exoteric literature such as the Puranas. Let us now explain how this entire framework traditionally works with veils and analogies.
The well-known Manvantara Doctrine uses a traditional device for analogies called the "Solar Key," with a value of 360. This reduces the commonly known value of 4,320,000 years (classified as "Human Time") to just 12,000 years (classified as "Divine Time"). The Solar Key thus differentiates an ancient, more primitive material time from a more evolved, current spiritual time. When we reduce time, we can address more modern evolutions and more advanced Hierarchies.
Furthermore, the topic of human evolution often proves controversial in light of religious beliefs. Thus, through the divine Manvantara, it is possible to focus on matters solely from the perspective of one's own spirituality.
None of this has anything to do directly with symbolism, but the Solar Key can be used to create analogies and to conceal sensitive data and simulate current evolutionary times, generally employing the great cycles that most impact people's mystical imagination. The reasons for secrecy are twofold: to protect the efforts of the White Lodge's manifestations and to hinder profane access to the hidden energies that accompany great evolutions.
Our Cosmology, on the surface, would not correspond to the structures presented by Theosophy. We offer a coherent and applied system, in contrast to the abstraction that characterizes the Theosophist model, which would be little more than a mental scheme or theory, something generic with vague astronomical overtones, although the true intention is astrological.
Mysteries need to be investigated, not just believed or refuted. This is the true attitude of the occultist. We must make it clear from the outset that our approaches have an initiatory and scientific basis (not a mystical and speculative one), and are intended to be more faithful to the spirit of the Tantras, the esoteric literature from which the Books of Dzyan originate.
Theosophist Symbolism
The Doctrine of Manvantara has an internal organization based on the Yugas or Ages endowed with decreasing proportions 4-3-2-1, which also have initiatory purposes. Blavatsky, however, used the Manvantara in an orthodox form without the Yugas, exploring certain specific keys to symmetrical order to organize a distinct original cosmology. She also added astronomical (or rather, astrological) symbolism to the ancient analogies of the greater Manvantara with which she worked, thus creating a double veil and heightening the contrast with the natural description of the facts.
In any case, the Solar Key of conversion and "updating" of material time from the Manvantara to spiritual time remains perfectly valid in practice. For example, Blavatsky's dating of Atlantis as 4 million years old, when reduced by 360, confirms the scientific (=Neolithic) and traditional data for an Atlantis of 12,000 years old, as suggested by Plato's myth (it is a mistake, however, to want to bring together both chronologies to try to calculate the true age of Atlantis).
In practice, what Manvantara works with is human evolution on all its scales: primitive material and modern spiritual—terms that actually include important allusions to the dominant form of spirituality in these two great evolutionary groups: natural magic and etheric spirituality, respectively. Theosophic Cosmology also does not operate with true astronomy, but rather employs the traditional and original veils of Astrology.
All of this, however, advances in maya, testing the student's consciousness because, if primitive evolution is already unimportant, astronomical realities mean little in themselves, except as the great maya of the Universe itself to be overcome. The veils are intended to confuse the amanasas, those with an underdeveloped mind and credulous tendencies. On the contrary, those who possess the true gift of mind, which is the manasaputra, will not be content with controversial versions of things; they will be suspicious of veils and will be alert to all signs and indications that might bring them ever closer to the naked Truth. And there is no shortage of signs and warnings in the writings of Blavatsky and Bailey, even when they themselves are not yet completely clear about the nature of the matter with which they work, or even because of this.
The amanasa/manasaputra correlation permeates the narratives of Book II of the Stanzas of Dzyan, and beyond Blavatsky's (naive?) interpretations, they refer to that special characteristic of initiates: discernment, considered by Hindus to be the most important of virtues. Discernment represents a form of intelligence linked to intuition and wisdom. We can also call it Chit or Mind, the seed of Prajna or Wisdom. There are many types of amanasas capable of expressing acute intelligence and perspicacity, but tainted by egotism and ignorance. In doing so, they confuse reasoning with speculation and belief with wisdom.
Discernment, however, represents only the external aspect of what could be defined as a "third vision" endowed with balance and depth. For above all, the manasaputra is dedicated to the inner search for Truth, through the attainment of solar Initiation. Hence, the context in which they are raised also specifically addresses Fohat, which is a technique of initiation and not a formula for "creating matter."
An Applied Cosmology
In terms of Theosophy, the "Lesser" Manvantara is therefore the basis of an Applied Cosmology, as a scientific expression of the symbolic and abstract values of exoteric Theosophy. These 12,000 years (Persian Years, Minor Round) of the "Lesser" Manvantara were the basis of ancient chronology.
And this is the unity of our quaternary cosmology to address the manifested cycles of material evolution—followed by triads of etheric or occult evolutions that we do not include in physical calculations, because material evolution is limited in practice to the quaternary. Therefore, an Arhat of the fourth initiation no longer needs to reincarnate; each and every more advanced incarnation represents an exceptionality that occurs solely for the purpose of aiding the evolution of humanity.
Thus, the cycles of this Applied Cosmology result in the following terms, starting with the “Lesser” Manvantara:
13,000 x 4 = 52,000 years: 1 Globe of Evolution
52,000 x 4 = 208,000 years: 1 Planetary Scheme
250,000 x 4 = 1,000,000 years: 1 Solar System
1,000,000 x 4 = 4,000,000 years: 1 Manvantara
4,320,000 x 4 = 17,280,000 years: 1 Mahamanvantara
Any excess in the calculations is due to transition fractals, which play an important role in terms of synthesis, sometimes even passing through “extra Eras” in many ancient calendars and cosmologies, often taking advantage of Certain natural inaccuracies in astronomical cycles.
The cycles given above could be both expanded and reduced. However, going beyond this Mahamanvantara makes no sense from the perspective of human evolution. And in fact, even advancing beyond the current Manvantara offers greater meaning, because the evolution of hominids itself begins there, already entering the realm of speculation. For this reason, the great "game of time" oscillates between the two Manvantara patterns in Hindu philosophy: the greater material and the lesser spiritual.
The initial Persian Year can be divided into four 2,600-year Eras that are fractals (10%) of Plato's Year, energized as they are by the famous Dasavatars of Vishnu: Rama, Krishna, Buddha, Kalki, etc.
In a study on Cosmology published in the magazine "The Theosophist," Blavatsky states that the true numbers would never be openly disclosed. This was true only until the final days of the prophecies, and they are already happening now.
