The Awakening of Human Spirituality: the Kumaras

Homo heidelbergensis

It is believed that for any higher evolution to exist, the presence of Kumaras would be necessary to guide planetary processes. Could the Kumaras have already begun to appear at the dawn of this Solar System? Could it be that, as early as the Homo heidelbergensis culture, or perhaps even earlier, the great Kumaras were already pontificating on the planet? In her "Treatise on Cosmic Fire," Alice A. Bailey conveys the following information:

“It has been reported that one hundred and four Kumaras came from Venus to Earth; literally, the number is one hundred and five, if the synthesizing Unity, the Lord of the World, is counted as one. The three Buddhas of Activity still remain with Him. I would like to draw attention to the double meaning of this name “Buddhas of Activity”, because it confirms the fact that the Entities who are in Their stage of evolution are active love-wisdom and personify, in Themselves, both aspects. The Three Buddhas of Activity correspond to the three persons of the Trinity.”

In total, we will then have 108 Kumaras - the great sacred Number of India -, Four of them occupying even more special positions because they govern greater cycles than the other Kumaras. Now, the Solar System has in each of its Seven Planetary Schemes Four manifested Globes, totaling 28 Globes; in addition to the 21 Globes hidden in Nirvana, which together total the 49 Globes of a Solar System.

In addition, each Globe has Four internal Rounds, which is the cycle that the Kumaras regularly govern. The total sum then results in (28x4=) 112 Kumaras. The four excess numbers are due to the Four main Kumaras accumulating missions. Could these Four be the most famous Kumaras of the Puranas? In any case, we are faced with a different situation here from the smaller and better-known group of Four Kumaras related only to a Globe of evolution and its internal rounds.

By dividing this amount into seven groups (105/7), Bailey then speaks of the groups of 15 Kumaras (or 10+5):

“These Kumaras [the 105] (or Their present substitutes) may also be divided into the seven groups which correspond to the seven Rays, and are in Themselves the life of the center for which they represent. Fifteen, therefore, of these Entities (again the ten and the five) form a center in the body of the planetary Logos (...)” (“Treatise on Cosmic Fire,” p. 388)

However, just as the 104 actually result in 108 (or 112), here too we will have 16 or 17 in the end. Each manifest Planetary Scheme (four manifested globes or sixteen rounds in each Planetary Scheme) will have 16 Kumaras in the rounds plus one “Greater” for the entire Scheme Planetarium.

The reference to Venus links this larger picture to a quaternary cycle, alluding to the current Solar System of human evolution. Therefore, it is only within our own Solar System, that is, within our Homo evolution (or in the last million years) that we can be sure of the existence of a true planetary spiritual development; without claiming that this is always something very developed in terms of modern ethics.

Thus, we cannot help but reflect that important initiatives will also have been carried out in the field of spirituality, even if in the primitive terms of the time, which were naturally those of Shamanism, including very primary forms of Shamanism.

Alice A. Bailey had already stated that the Atlantean didactics were much cruder than the current ones, and that many of their procedures would not be approved by current codes of ethics. We can think here of different forms of coercion, pressure and threats. The Author also informs that some of their practices would be directly classified today as black magic.

We are talking about the race before ours, which existed only ten thousand years ago - in the next Chapter we will deal with the Atlantean Final Crisis and the War of the Worlds. Imagine then what the methods of races and even species that were even older would have been like! At a time when the idea of humanity was not yet well established, the procedures could have largely escaped any modern humanistic consideration.

The further back in time one goes, the more the idea of individuality seems to fade away in the face of collective needs, since spirituality was also a group form because it gave meaning and direction to humanity, conferring great power and prestige on its exponents. The true original authorities of humanity were not political but spiritual and religious. The wise men soon dedicated themselves to imprinting on human consciousness a table of values in which the spiritual represented true human identity. Instead of appealing to material resources to solve their problems, people should be able to find their answers in the spiritual worlds.

The last ice age ushered in a very difficult period for species, many of which did not survive or reemerged transformed in the arduous struggle for survival that would follow. Emerging immediately from the adaptations of the critical period of the Great Gap of a Million Years ago, therefore at the opening of the current Solar System, Homo heidelbergensis has been evaluated as organized and skillful, but also often brutal, treacherous and anthropophagous, which allows us to have an idea of how harsh the conditions were during that period of transition of great limitations that the species survived. He was not the only survivor, but rather competed with many powerful and hungry beasts that also hunted him. In view of this, devouring his fellow man was often not an option, but a necessity - at least that is how things have been presented by scholars. For this reason, this human species is related to the mineral kingdom, the most brutal, hard and elementary of the four kingdoms.

Ancient accounts report that Shamanism related to the Mineral Kingdom is the harshest, most powerful and also cruel that has ever existed, due to the very primitive nature of the Mineral Kingdom. Mineral witchcraft was described as highly immobilizing and crippling. It involved all forms of witchcraft with crystals and the elements. A spirit that was imprisoned by the Water Elemental controlled by the sorcerer could never be freed again, remaining disturbed forever. Those shamans sought to be near rivers so that they could transform themselves into water or imprison a persecutor - in the same way that later species also learned to perform self-mutations with plants and animals. One of the objectives was to achieve greater forms of “immortality” by merging with elements and with longer-lived kingdoms or specimens.

Primitive witchcraft with water

In the absence of natural physical powers, ancient man sought to appeal to metaphysical powers in order to survive and control his world, although he found many of these supernatural resources in Nature itself. However, not everything was just for power, as the healing arts were also highly developed. As the ages passed, knowledge was also refined, although many of those primitive expressions were always maintained. And so began the history of the spirituality of true humanity, forming the first great spiritual egregores created in this world.

With evolution, new methods emerged so that instead of humans serving the Elementals, they could be served by them for nobler purposes. Today, commands over the Elementals are carried out through specific mantras. The Elemental of Water can be invoked to balance emotions and refine feelings, as well as to express compassion and demonstrate solidarity.

Even so, many questions remain open regarding primitive spirituality. What is the relationship between this witchcraft and the Kingdoms in Nature and the evolution of the Elementals of Nature?! Could it be that ancient witchcraft is to the Elementals the same way that modern spirituality is to the Angels? These are intriguing questions that open up paths to many of the atavistic mysteries of our planet.

Naturally, the Homo heidelbergensis of our Planetary Scheme was not a pure materialist, but rather a 3:1 human type, that is: mental-materialist, like the previous Homo habilis in this Solar System. Hence his intelligence and cunning. There are always distinctions between the pure materialist and the nuanced one. A pure type can be pragmatic, utilitarian and immediate, but he will also be simple and even humble. He does not allow himself to fly off the deep end, but he does not despise those who do, and is even capable of admiring them when educated. Socially, he is related to the proletarian, the worker or servant, and spiritually he is the novice, although the term “novice” is not exclusively spiritual. The modern “mental-mineral” man is the “scientist” and the skeptic, whose beliefs have ideological weight. He only believes in what he sees and only values what has immediate value.

Homo heidelbergensis would be the first human proto-race —see the three evolutionary scales of races in the next chapter. In the Secret Doctrine, the first races are considered "giants." Compared to previous hominid species, the first Homo species were often very tall, reaching up to 1.80 meters in height—with the exception of the original Homo habilis, which was a transitional species with hominids and had an extremely precarious existence. Nevertheless, despite its short stature and physical weakness in the face of the immense dangers of the period, Homo habilis still managed to exist for a million years, as we have seen. So here too, we could imagine a small giant, perhaps in another sense of the term, which has nevertheless been used for different purposes. Even before us, who are 200,000 years old and already at risk of self-extinction. Blavatsky's assessments of the first Race also place it as amanasa, "mindless," which could reflect the mental rudeness of Homo heidelbergensis. Like its famous predecessor, Homo erectus, Homo heidelbergensis was also a pioneer in a world already closer to humankind. Perhaps at this point the question finally arises: "What is the role of intelligence in the evolution of the human form?" Most likely, the refinement of instincts, led by the mind, led evolution to make great leaps. Paradoxically, however, good and evil often walk very close together. Seneca said: "The smarter a man thinks he is, the more he needs divine protection to protect himself from himself."

And here lies a subtlety that often escapes the student: the dual association that humans have received in spiritual teachings: both in relation to the mental (a tertiary energy) and the intuitive (a quaternary dimension). Much of spirituality associates the human being with the mental, and this certainly has a basis in the Aryan tradition, extending to the third round in theosophical hermeneutics. And this is significant because we already have an important dimension here, even in spiritual terms. However, the true human condition is quaternary. This is why in the Ramayana, the monkey-god Hanuman, despite being a god, still serves as an authentic human avatar. This is also what makes the Atlantean race "authentically human" in relation to previous races, just as the current round is in relation to previous ones. Manas (the mind) has been greatly revalued in the Aryan context, and it is indeed an important and challenging principle. However, it is necessary to realize it and move now toward the new racial intuitive principle.

In Theosophy Unveiled - which is also an Initiatory Theosophy - we do not analyze the evolution of the Mineral Kingdom itself, but rather the stages of the Mineral Spirituality of humanity, as well as the other forms that make up the rich accumulated heritage of human spirituality. In the following Chapters we will continue to deal with primitive and ancient Spirituality.
